Helping player look for lost ball

Message par Kenneth Wolfe le Mar 14 Fév - 8:57

Should a Rules official help a player look for a lost ball? Is it an obligation, a courtesy or something else?

To me there is nothing that say the rules officer can not help a player to find is ball See definitions of referee. But i don't think it's an obligation. It is more a courtesy.

Thanks. So, if you don't help look, the player shouldn't be ticked off?

Actually, I very rarely help look. I feel my job is to time the player while keeping an eye out in my sector for any other problem. If I am in the woods, I cant help someone else

My self i don't search ball for player. But il i saw the ball hit a tree and goes left, i tell the player where to seach. From there i don't like to kick the ball searching it, and have argument with the player, cause in his mind he really don't want to find.

If I see a ball go in a area such as woods, I will indicate where it came in, and just help look close to the point of entry, but will not venture into the woods.
If I see a ball arrive in fescue or long grass, I will go directly where I think it is and will help search when the player is walking towards the area. The main reason is for Pace of Play.
If I am driving down/up the fairway and hear a ball arrives in the area, I will stop and start looking if it just along the fairway, as it is quite sure the group would find it.
If I notice their co-competitors are making no effort in giving a hand in looking, I will encourage them to come along, for the same reason of Pace of Play.
As a player, I would feel insulted if I saw a RO sit in his(her) cart and not say anything beside the  'We are here to help you' or 'Your time is up and it is now a lost ball; do you need a lift to the Teeing ground (If a Prov. Ball was not played)'.
Usually, we quickly find the trouble spot on our holes we are assigned and we hang around there.
I think among the RO, there are 2 schools of thoughts of this matter 'To help or not to help, that is the question!' There is no right answer, you choose the one that defines you as an official. Cool

D'accord avec toi Claire deux philosophies, je trouve dangereux de m'approcher trop, mais au moins indiquer l,endroit d'entrée ou un indice quelconque est minimal dans notre fonction.
